Exeter Young Chamber holds first successful event

The Young Chamber held their first event on Tuesday 8th December for first year business students at Exeter College. Guest speakers from various local businesses were invited to offer career advice and give an insight into how they personally progressed in their profession.

Speakers included representatives from HSBC, Alpha Vae Electrical Contractors Ltd and The Really Good Recruitment Company attracting approximately 110 students. Students were given the opportunity to ask questions and the chance to reflect on where their own careers would lead them in five Christmas’s time. Overall the general response was very positive from everyone involved.

Jessica Wright, Young Chamber President said, ‘I can’t believe how smoothly the event went, I’m so proud we pulled it off. The companies involved were amazing and I’d like to say a special thanks to all the speakers that attended. The career advise was really beneficial and a great opportunity for the students. I just hope that we can have events that are this successful in the future - I’m sure we will.’

Sheree Hurford, Young Chamber Vice President and Business Development Manager said, ‘We were all very pleased with the success of our first event and we will shortly be making plans for more events in the New Year. We would like to thank Lisa Vanstone, the Chamber Services Manager and all the teachers in the faculty for their support, and a special thanks to all our speakers for giving up their time.’

The Young Chamber was designed by the Government to get students involved with local businesses and gain practical experience.
